TOPIC: THE POWER OF GOD’S BLESSING (PART 2)
TEXT: GEN. 12:1-4; GALATIANS 3:13-18
FOCUS: THE BLESSING OF ABRAHAM
Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Gen 12:4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Gal 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Gal 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Gal 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
Gal 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
Introduction: God is still in the business of blessing His people. We did establish last week that the first time the Divinity (God) was to speak to humanity He spoke a blessing upon the first man (Adam) in Gen. 1:28. God made a covenant of blessing with Abraham by sealing it with an oath in Gen. 22:16-18. So, we as the seeds of Abraham, we are destined to be blessed and to become blessings to our world or generation.
A. WHAT IS BLESSING OF ABRAHAM?
1. The blessing of Abraham is a covenanted blessing sealed with an oath (Gen.12:2-3; Gal. 3:16) Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
2. It is a kind of blessing made to be inherited by the seeds of Abraham (Gen. 22:17-18; Gen. 28:4)
Gen 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; Gen 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Gen 28:4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee;that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.
3. It is a blessing ordained by God to give you your place in life and destiny (Gen. 1:28; Deut.8:18)
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Deu 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
4. It a blessing of God that adds no sorrow to the life of a man (Pro.10:22; Pro.8:18)
Pro 10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
Pro 8:18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
5. It is a blessing God ordained from the foundation of the Earth. Man was not a contributor to the creation but it was given to him free. (Gen.1:29-30)
Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Gen 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
B. HOW TO ACTIVATE ABRHAMIC ORDER OF BLESSING
We need to know that Abrahamic blessings confer on us some responsibilities in order to be able to walk in it. The responsibilities are:
1. Obedience to God – Gen. 12:1,4
2. Faith in God – Heb.11:8; Gal.3:8
3. Acts of Abraham – John 8:39
– Abraham was tithe giver and a giver. Gen. 14; Heb.7
– Abraham was a man of absolute faith and confidence in God. Rom.4:20
– Abraham was a man of sacrifice. Gen. 22
4. Absolute Trust in God – Trust is strong confidence in God and His word. Prov. 3:5-6; Rom. 8:18; 1 John 3:2
Note: Those that will deal with God must deal upon trust, we must quit the things that are seen for the things that are not seen.
5. Absolute Dependence on God – Abraham left his country for the country God will SHOW him not the one that has been given to him. Gen.12:1
Conclusion: God in His magnanimity and providence had sworn to bless you being the seed of Abraham. You need to rise up and walk in the blessing of God for your life.
