TOPIC: THE REVELATION OF GOD’S GLORY (PART 3)
TEXT: ACTS 10:38-44; 1 JOHN 2:27
FOCUS: THE ANOINTING
Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Act 10:39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Act 10:40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; Act 10:41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. Act 10:42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. Act 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Act 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
Introduction: It is impossible to understand what the anointing is without first knowing who the Holy Spirit is. When you discover His personality, it becomes easy for you to know how He empowers people for supernatural feat. However, anointing is one of the provisions God has made available to us as the hiers of salvation in order to enhance the fulfilment of His purpose for our life. Therefore, the anointing is the Holy Spirit.
A. WHAT IS ANOINTING?
Basically, anointing could be described as a verb and a noun at the same time. For Example;
– Anointing is substance used to anoint a person. (Noun)
– Anointing could also mean the act of pouring oil on someone. Heb. Mashach (Verb)
– The Anointed simply means “christos” in Greek and “mashOah” which means Messiah in Hebrew.
Scripturally, Anointing is the empowering of the Spirit of God for supernatural accomplishments. That is, the Holy Spirit in a man producing extra ordinary results. (Jesus Christ – Acts 10:38; Luke 4:14)
Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Luk 4:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
– Anointing is the hand of the Almighty God upon the life of a person. (Elijah – 1 Kings 18:46) 1Ki 18:46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
– Anointing is the proof of the presence of God in the life of a person or the anointed. (Moses – Exo. 33:15-19)
– Anointing is the power of God that turns a fearful and timid person to a courageous and bold personality (Apostle Peter – Acts 4:8,13)
Act 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, Act 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
B. SOME OF THE PROFITS / BENEFITS OF ANOINTING
The benefits the believers can derive from the anointing are so numerous:
1. Anointing destroys the yokes of satan (sicknesses, infirmity, depression, trauma etc) and quickens your body. (Luke 13:10-13; Isaiah 10:27; Rom.8:11)
Isa 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
2. Anointing establishes your dominion in the midst of opposition. (Psa 110:1-3)
Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Psa 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Psa 110:3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
3. Anointing enables you to live a supernatural life on earth (Psa. 92:10-12)
Psa 92:10 But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil. Psa 92:11 Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
Psa 92:12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
4. Anointing enables you to fulfil God’s eternal purpose for your life (Isa.61:1-3; Luke 4:18-19; Acts 10:38)
Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luk 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
5. Anointing enhances new spiritual status for a man. The unction gives birth to a new position (Joshua – Deut.34:9; Elisha – 2 Kings 2:14-15)
Deu 34:9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.
2Ki 2:14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over. 2Ki 2:15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
6. Anointing enables you to have exploits through the power of the Holy Spirit in all the areas of your life. (Luke 4:1,14)
Luk 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Luk 4:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
7. Anointing guarantees your protection from all evils and witchcraft attacks. (Psa.105:14-15)
Psa 105:14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Psa 105:15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
8. Anointing sharpens your mind and makes you of quick understanding. (Isa 11:2-3)
9. Anointing teaches you all things you need to know. (1 John 2:27)
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
10. Anointing enthrones you over all the situations and circumstances of life. (Eph. 1:16-23)
Conclusion: Brethren, knowing the benefits of anointing, you can’t afford to remain ‘anoint-less’ in this end- time instead of being anointed. We can call on God to anoint us specially to fulfil destiny.
